This project was pretty simple so I thought to do it with Dani Rea. She is learning her letters and I wanted to incorporate that into the project. I thought with Valentine’s Day coming up we could make a cross with letter matching.
- Foam cross with hanger on back
- Colored paper (I chose white and pink)
- Black sharpie
We started out by cutting 6 pieces of paper into squares. We cut 4 pinks and 2 whites. Then I put the letters onto the paper in the colors shown here, using a heart for the “o”.
Then I wrote the letters on the cross where I wanted her to match up the cut pieces of paper.
Next, I laid out the pieces and had her pick up the letters and glue and match them to the area on the cross.
While she was putting her project together, we discussed how the Bible is full of stories about love and Valentine’s day is a perfect time to talk about it. It is so important because it is one of the greatest commands and it is who God is. I told her that no matter what happens in life, she can always feel comfort in knowing that God loves her unconditionally. She adorably responded with, “That means forever and ever.” I told her that she was absolutely correct. It says in 1 John 4:8 “God is love”, and this was such an easy way to re-iterate that message to her.
After we finished, she proudly asked if she could hang her cross in her room where she could see it right when she opened her eyes in the morning. I, naturally, obliged.
