Lent Survival Kit Activity

Lent is a time when Christians do more than simply sacrifice, as Jesus did in the desert. We take this time to reflect on how much we rely on Him for our salvation.

Help enforce this connection among your children with this fun Lent Survival Kit Activity.

Jesus is everything we need so this activity gives a visual representation of all the ways Jesus can help us in the hardest times.

  • Egglo Eggs
  • Large Basket
  • Items That Match the Clues (Listed Below)
  • Print Clues and Basket Label
  • Flashlight

First, cut out the strips of clues and basket label. Place the clues within an Egglo Egg and place the label on the front of the basket. Place the first clue near a flashlight within the basket and hide a glow in the dark egg near items on the list, so the kids can follow the clues to the next item they need to look for.

  • 1st Clue – In the survival kit – Jesus is the Bread of Life (John 6:35)
  • 2nd Clue – Near a lamp or smaller light source – Jesus is the Light of the World – Jesus is the light of the world (John 8:12)
  • 3rd Clue – A compass – Jesus is the morning star (2 Peter 1:9)
  • 4th Clue – A notebook – wonderful counselor (Isaiah 9:6)
  • 5th Clue – A bottle of Water – living water ( John 7:37 -39)
  • 6th Clue – The Bible – Jesus is the savior (Luke 2:11)
  • 7th Clue – Medical kit or just bandages – Jesus is the physician (Luke 4:23)

Once they’ve gathered all of the items, read to them the story of Jesus’ temptation in the desert. (Matt 4:1-11)

Talk to them about how Jesus showed his strength then, and offers us the same strength now when battling our own temptations.

Keep the items in the basket with the glow in the dark Egglo Eggs inside. Leave the basket displayed in a commonly used area to remind the children that they can always turn to Jesus for their needs.
